David Griffin
Linguist and Lawyer
Cardiff University

I am an American linguist and attorney based in Cardiff, Wales. My research interests include the use of language in legal contexts, the nature of pseudolaw, and the semiotics of authority more broadly. I have written extensively about the documents produced by members of the Sovereign Citizen conspiracy movement.

In addition to my work as a researcher, I am an experienced and enthusiastic lecturer and academic supervisor. I am a Fellow of AdvanceHE (formerly the Higher Education Academy) and have worked at the foundation, undergraduate, and master's levels. I have particular experience teaching in the areas of language and law (also referred to as forensic linguistics) and corpus linguistics.

I received a B.A. in Communication from Northwestern University in 2013, a J.D. from Boston University in 2016, and both an M.A. in Forensic Linguistics and a Ph.D. in Language and Communication from Cardiff University in 2017 and 2022, respectively.
